The French architects, today more than 30,000, bear a singular voice in the world, from Rio de Janeiro, with the Cidade Das Artes de Christian de Portzamparc, to Abu Dhabi with the Louvre de Jean Nouvel, via the French pavilion recently inaugurated at the Universal Exhibition of Osaka, orchestrated by the Coldefy agency, in partnership with Carlo Ratti Biennale de Venice this year).

French architects are the second exporters of the sector in Europe, behind the British, and are distinguished by their expertise in terms of sustainable and responsible architecture, continuity between heritage, conservation, rehabilitation, adaptation and creation concretizing the principle according to which architecture is « one and indivisibleAs Philippe Prost describes it, the National Grand Prix of Architecture 2022.

Beyond being the operator of the French pavilion of the Venice Biennale, the French Institute supports, in coherence with the national strategy for the architecture announced by the Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, on February 4, the international presence of architects at the start of their career, accompanies agencies in their international projection in connection with the French diplomatic network, and in particular those which wish to accelerate their development on target markets.

The Venice Biennale has offered a platform since its creation to the architects since its creation to present their work, exchange with their peers and publicize architectural trends. Nearly 300,000 people visited the previous architecture biennial in 2023, including more than 180,000 for the French pavilion.

It is a prescribing event in which sixty-five countries participate.

Even though the historic building sheltering the French pavilion will be closed for important necessary renovation work, managed and funded by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the French Institute, with the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, which it notes, have chosen to maintain France in the Biennale this year.

Imagine a “outside the walls” pavilion: this is the challenge taken up by the agency Jakob + MacFarlane, associated with architects Eric Daniel-Lacombe and Martin Duplatier, selected to represent France.

Make this hazard an opportunity: it is the manifesto of their Living with /Living project with. Architecture adapts to the existing, lives with the impermanence of things and the unpredictability of the future, offers innovative solutions in the face of environmental challenges, conflicts and the instability of the world. Those that will be presented in this project come from a collaboration with around forty architects, urban planners, landscapers, architectural schools. The French Institute mobilizes its partners to show this project to the greatest number. In 2026, he stopped at the Frac Center-Val de Loire in Orleans, then in Chicago, Recife and São Paulo as part of the France-Brazil 2025 season.

The theme of the pavilion resonates with one of the objectives of the national strategy for architecture: to show that architecture is as much a discipline as a must -see public policy to meet environmental and societal challenges.

Note that several French architects and designers will be present in Venice in the international exhibition which unfolds in parallel national pavilions, such as the Coldefy, Imma Sierra, Clémence Althabegoity agency, Rach Rouzaud, Bernadetta Budzik, François Roche, Eytan Levi or Gabriel Fontana at the Pavilion of the Netherlands.

Let it be said: French architects bear a singular, and recognized voice!
