In addition to Hungary, the leaders of all Member States repeated strong support to Ukraine on Thursday and emphasized the need for Russian aggression to be completed by comprehensive, righteous and lasting peace.

« Since the beginning of the war, the European Union and its Member States have emphasized, together with partners and allies, the need to be stopped by comprehensive, righteous and lasting peace on the basis of the UN Charter and International Law Principles, » the conclusions accepted by 26 members of the Member States, all but Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban.

« The European Council again confirms its continuous and unwavering support of independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, » the text said.

The conclusions are repeated by the EU positions so far that Ukraine cannot be discussed without it, that there is no conversation about European security without the involvement of Europe and that transatlantic, global security as well as the security of Ukraine and Europe are interconnected.

Then that any truce or interruption of the fire is only acceptable if part of the process leading to the comprehensive peace agreement, that each such agreement must be accompanied by strong and credible security guarantees for Ukraine, which will contribute to the distraction from the future Russian aggression. The devotion to the EU is emphasized by the continuation of the increased political, financial, economic, humanitarian, military and diplomatic support to Ukraine and its people, and to strengthen the pressure on Russia, including further sanctions and strengthening the implementation of existing measures, to weaken its ability to continue to conduct its aggressive war.

The leaders called on the EU Council to work rapidly at the initiative of the EU High Representative for an external and security policy to ensure additional military assistance to Ukraine.

The European Council expresses the readiness of the Member States to contribute to security guarantees for Ukraine in accordance with its abilities.

« Safety guarantees should be taken together with Ukraine, such as like -minded people and NATO partners, » the conclusions said.
