A partial solar eclipse occurs when the moon moves between earth and sun and the three celestial bodies are aligned. The new moon stands partly in front of the sun and thus hinders part of the sunlight. In reality, the moon is 400 times smaller than the sun, but because the moon is 400 times closer, it seems the same size in the sky.

Shortly after noon, at 12.07, the eclips is at its peak. From Brussels, the sun is then covered for 35 percent and a huge ‘Pacman’ is created in the sky. In the far west of Belgium, 38 percent of the sun disk is covered by the moon, in the southeast that is 31 percent. At that time the sun is at an altitude of 42 °.
Afterwards the bite that ‘biting’ the moon of the sun becomes smaller again and around 1 pm the eclips is over. Because only a small part of the sun is covered, it will not get darker during the eclipse.
