Little small sodium chloride solution packages / day used in hospitals are missing in Latvia

The agency states that sodium chloride 0.9% solution for infusions in 100 milliliters and 250 milliliters is currently primarily providing Latvian medical institutions. In pharmacies, on the other hand, this medicine is widely available in the largest – 1000 milliliters and 500 milliliters.

For example, there are currently 4343 Sodium Chloride B.Braun solutions for infusions in 500 milliliters of packs in Latvia, while 1000 milliliters’ packs of 1257.

The SAR explains that in Latvia and around the world there is a lack of sodium chloride 0.9% solution for infusions in exactly 100 milliliters and 250 milliliters. In Europe and the United States, there has been a long time for these drugs caused by the increase in demand, reduced supply of individual producers to markets of different countries, and a natural disaster in the US last year, which has caused damage to one of the largest solutions in the world, informs the SAM.

The ZVA with the owners of the registration certificate responsible for the availability of the drug – « Fresenius Kabsi Polska SP.Z OO » and « B.Braun Melsungen AG » are addressing the situation and continues to talk about providing additional supplies to Latvia.

Priority -available medicines are currently being channeled to hospitals, the SAR points out.

In order to improve the availability of these medicines, the SAR has called on the drug wholesalers to provide alternatives to the above medicines. So far, three drug wholesalers have found additional options by delivering analogous medicines to Latvia, which are unregistered in Latvia but registered and used in other countries.

The SAA has also notified the European Medicines Agency of the limited availability of medicines in 100 and 250 milliliters. More information on their availability in other countries’ markets and opportunities for Latvia will be received soon.

Information on medicines registered and available in Latvia is available on the Latvian Medicines Register on the ZVA website. The Register also provides up -to -date information on the total amount of remaining collections of medicines and specific wholesalers where the medicine is available. Pharmacies and medical institutions regularly use this information to make the necessary medicinal orders, according to the Agency.

The SAM calls for the use of a prepared online tool and report if any medication is not available. Report an electronic form on the agency’s website.
