Lithuanian volunteer / day has been taken out of the battlefield in Ukraine
The 20 -year -old Tom Valentel fell on March 13 in his first battle mission near the Kupyansk Kharkiv region. In the Ukrainian International Legion of Territorial Forces, he served for less than six months.
Blue/Yellow reported that the Ukrainian special operations had a dangerous mission at night to take the fallen. The operation was also attended by the International Legion, the National Guard of Ukraine, the Blue/Yellow and the Ukrainian Foundation « Citadel UA ».
The Lithuanian Armed Forces, in cooperation with the Lithuanian Embassy in Ukraine, will ensure the delivery of a fallen soldier at home.
« The Ukrainians are fighting and dying in the name of freedom. Ukraine’s freedom is European freedom and Lithuanian freedom. The eternal peace, the brave soldier who fought for Ukraine and Lithuania, » said Lithuanian President Gitan Nauseda.
Relatives of the fallen soldier have asked the media, institutions and the public to respect their right to privacy.
Valentel is the second volunteer from Lithuania to fall in Ukraine in the fight against the invaded Russian troops.
The Lithuanian volunteer, Tad Top with the nickname « Giants » (« Giant ») fell in the battles in Ukraine on February 23 last year, when a Russian unmanned aircraft hit the car in which the Lithuanian and a Ukrainian soldier led a mine to the front line near Bahmouth. Both soldiers died.
