Lisbon Metropolitano opens stations at night due to heat
The Lisbon Metropolitan will open the East, Rossio and Santa Apolónia stations at night to homeless people, between Wednesday and Saturday, due to the rise in temperatures.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the Lisbon Metro indicated that the measure was articulated with the Lisbon City Council and the Ministry of Health and is part of the contingency plan for people in a homeless situation.
This plan “aims to make safe and sheltered spaces available during the nights with particularly high temperatures”.
Thus, the East (access through the gate on the Tagus/Shopping Center), Rossio (entrance through Praça da Figueira, next to Rossio) and Santa Apolónia (north access, through the tour with the station building) will be open on the nights from Thursday, from Thursday to Friday and Friday to Saturday.
The stations are « ready to welcome people in a homeless situation. »
« The measure will be accompanied by reinforced surveillance actions, in collaboration with the Municipal Police, and for a proper cleaning plan, ensuring decent conditions in the stations that will remain open, » adds the Metro.
Lisbon will be under yellow warning due to the temperature between 09h00 on Thursday and 9 pm on Friday.
