Lisbon Book Fair Return to Park Eduardo VII
The Lisbon Book Fair returns to Eduardo VII Park between June 4 and 22, with 350 pavilions, 963 editorial brands and a green initiative that will allow planting thousands of trees. The investment is 135 thousand euros.
The Portuguese Association of Editors and Books (APEL) and the Lisbon City Council (CML) presented the 95th Lisbon Book Fair, an edition of “consolidation” of the previous one, as the event reached the “physical space limit”, said the president of Apel.
« We have the number of pavilions that we consider suitable for what the space holds, which brings the added responsibility to maintain some news, » said Miguel Pauseiro. The official stressed that he wants a “differentiating fair and confirms it as the most beautiful in the world”, as they classify its visitors.
The president of APEL added to have “expectation of exceeding last year” in number of cultural initiatives, with more than 3,000 events, of which 1,200 implies the presence of authors.
One of the big news this year is the sustainable project “Let’s Plant Books”, in partnership with The Navigator Company, which associates the sale of books with tree planting.
“For every 100 books sold, a tree will be planted. We estimate selling between 700,000 and 800,000 books, which estimates 7,000 to 8,000 new trees in our country,” he specified, cited by Lusa.
This year, there will be 133 participants, a number “slightly below the previous year, which will represent about 960 sections and more than 85,000 titles”. However, these numbers are yet to close.
A new square will be inaugurated – Green Square – and, in terms of accessibility, there will be more portable ramps and wheelchairs, made available by Santa Casa da Misericórdia, for people with reduced mobility.
The events with Portuguese gestural language and the existence of a color alphabet for color daltonics, which, among other things, helps people guide themselves in the squares, which are defined by color, are also returning in this edition.
The mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Coins, pointed out that the “investment in the fair is increasingly important” and revealed that this year increased financial support to 135 thousand euros (another 15 thousand, compared to the investment of 120 thousand last year), apart from logistical support.
