Linkin Park are back – and summer smells of rock

The stadium, the smell of beer, sweat and summer is in the air. Black band shirts shape the picture, heads nod in time, fists quickly. Linkin Park is back – and Hanover trembles.

After years of silence, more than 42,000 people celebrate the comeback of the Californian rock band. In addition to the old hits, the songs of the new album “From Zero” are particularly celebrated, which was released last year after seven years of time. The long break was due to the death of front man Chester Bennington, who committed suicide in 2017.

But in autumn the band dared to restart – surprisingly and with new faces: Emily Armstrong as singer and Colin Brittain on drums. The enthusiasm has lasted since then, also in Hanover.

Some particularly loyal fans opened their camp on Sunday afternoon in front of the stadium, hoping for places in the front row.

« I’m now 32. I would not have thought that I would wait at some point overnight in front of a stadium, » said a woman who came from near Cologne and has been hearing Linkin Park for 20 years. She and three friends had booked a hotel nearby and alternated in the queue every four hours.

« In any case, it was faster than expected, » said one of the others. They paid around 180 euros for the tickets – a price that they now find normal. In addition, there were a good 160 euros for two hotel rooms and the fuel costs. But Linkin Park is always worth that.

Distinctive sound

The stylish mix of metal, rock, rap and electric remains the hallmark of the group of six. Particularly formative: the interaction of powerful vocals and rapped parts.

Linkin Park made the leap to one of the most successful bands in the world – and the new front woman Armstrong also convinced with hits like « In the End » and « Numb ».

Her voice easily changes between crystal -clear heights, angry shouts and strong screams. No wonder that Linkin Park reach more than 50 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Songs scream as therapy

For many fans it is more than just music. The 32-year-old supporter, who also experienced Linkin Park live in Paris, described the concerts as a kind of therapy. « You can scream the songs nicely, » she said. «Everyone singing along, all of them scream, the band gives energy. That just makes you feel like it.  »

The death of Chester Bennington met her deeply. It is all the happier today about the comeback – and about Armstrong as the new voice of the band: « You made the right decision. »

Further concerts planned in Germany

The concert in Hanover was this year’s German start of the current world tour. Berlin will follow on Wednesday, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt are on the program in July.

Shows in Hamburg and Munich have been announced for the summer of 2026. In addition, it was announced only a few days ago: Linkin Park will play as headliners at Rock am Ring in 2026.
