« Like waking up in every other life »

« I got Covid in February 2022 and didn't get really sick, but was long ill, » says Gunnar Helgi Guðjónsson, who has been struggling with long -lasting Covid for three years. « So I just kept going to have a fever, but tormented myself, came to work, but was so bad that I could hardly hold a head and really fell asleep in the chair. » In May of the same year, he went on sick leave, and then his panic between doctors began, a luminous disease that no one knew then existed.

« It didn't happen until the fall that my doctor decided to look at this better and then I went to Reykjalund for rehabilitation. It was in many ways good, but the program was more generally a general resource than especially for long -lasting Covid. «

Everything changed

Gunnar says that he has always been very active, was both a chef and a graphic designer. « When I got sick, it was like waking up in a different life, since I suddenly couldn't do anything of what I used to do, » he says, adding that it is a big shock to have to rethink all his life with regard to wastefulness and endless pain.

« So you decide to try to tear up and do some of the traditional things like taking or going for a walk to try to refresh yourself. This means that the next or next day you are completely baking after the effort. It is not possible to understand this except try it on your own skin. «

Two -child father

Life continues, although a difficult illness has taken over life and Gunnar has two daughters, which he keeps home for between what they are with his mother. « When I was the worst, they were less with me, but are now longer, and I immediately decided that I wanted to use all my energy in togetherness with my daughters. »

However, it can be difficult, because simple things like getting food from a store into an apartment can be turned. « Sometimes I am forced to leave a bag at the bottom of the stairs, because I can't handle them up in the apartment. »
