Like the world of their eyes – we give a vision and a chance
« Aunt, can I look into that light too? Can I look at numbers? » Bendegúz, who accompanied his classmate for screening, comes to the test chair. On the Malta Charity Service bus, the eyes are first examined and the result is excellent. « What will you be if you get big? » The Maltese ask. « Astronaut. I always look at them on the internet at home. » Says the eight -year -old boy. « You have your eagle! The boy steps out of the bus proudly as if Mars was touched by his feet. Perhaps he was more excited to be encouraged than seeing it well.
The lens fits into the test frame. He puts it, and the sixteen -year -old Lili burst into crying. Says: “The world has become frowned.” He is enthusiastic about the frameworks: insight was not part of his life, nor is it his own. Now you can experience both.

Six brothers arrive on the bus, none of them passed ten years old. It soon turns out to be a big problem: four have bilateral cataracts. Critical situation, you have to act quickly. Maltese staff, a village also a mayor who serves the case, a conscientious child ophthalmologist and the family cooperation – all this requires children from losing their vision. After the eye surgery, the children get +17- +20 dioptric glasses – for free. For the first time in their lives they see each other clearly. They are enthusiastic about the thick lenses enlarge their eyes. And we know their opportunities.

Often, no one notices the loss of vision of children living in the poorest settlements for years, which can cause permanent damage. However, if they recognize the problem, most families cannot pay the preparation of the glasses. The Malta filter bus, equipped with state -of -the -art ophthalmic instruments, has been traveling the poorest settlements in the country since 2019. We examine more than five thousand children a year – free of charge. The goal is to notice the trouble in time and give them a chance to those who are left out of their lives. In a vehicle equipped with a broadband internet, children are examined by professionals, and if necessary, the child’s ophthalmologist is joined online. After the examination, the kids can choose the eyeglass frame they like best and get the finished glasses for free in a few weeks. In the event of a more serious problem, the program staff will accompany children to further examinations, surgery and therapy. Not only do they get glasses, but they also get a chance through the bus, as a well -seen child learns more easily, less missing. A single glasses can sometimes change the direction of a whole life.
