Lifeless body found in the water at Baudelopark in Ghent (Ghent)

Ghent

The emergency services took the lifeless body of a person out of the water on Monday at the Baudelopark in Ghent.

The police received a report on Monday morning that a body had been seen in the water at Baudelopark, in the center of Ghent. The fire brigade arrived with a team of divers, but could only conclude that the person in the water had already died.

The Ghent police can only confirm that a body has been removed from the water. No more details are known yet. Whether it is an accident, a act of desperation or another incident, must still be investigated.

Several people have drowned in Ghent in the last six months. In November, the body of 34-year-old Dietse Michielsen was taken out of the water in almost the same place on the Baudelopark. The man was probably killed after an unfortunate fall in the cold water.

In December the body of the 69-year-old Gratien de Clercq removed from the Oude Schelde. Everything pointed to a tragic accident. And at the end of January, a forties ended up in the cold water of the Graslei. Bystanders managed to pull him on the quay, but resuscitation could no longer benefit.

More later.
