Lieferando is now building a fleet of free employees – Diepresse.com

The meal deliverer releases employees and at the same time attracts free employees with sentences such as: « Earn additional money and adapt to your lifestyle ».

The food deliverer Lieferando cancels around 850 employees – and is now switching new ads to social media that are supposed to attract free employees. Because Lieferando wants to switch to this business model. The reason is that the competition has never done. At Foodora or Wolt there were always only free workers. From April 16 and until June 30, Lieferando will now pay each new free employee 2 euros extra to find personnel.

« Earn additional money and adapt to your lifestyle, » says the advertisement. Or: « Choose your own schedule and enclose your availability every week. » How much you can earn does not arise from the circuits, which, as a freelance employee, naturally depends completely on how much you are struggling. Whether there is always a fixed sum is not evident from the advertisements, but it says: « Let yourself be paid out for your conditions! »

In any case, there is much less rights without employment, as the union is not tired of emphasizing. A social plan is currently being negotiated for the people registered for the dismissal at the AMS.

Own bike, your own smartphone, own data

Before you can start, according to Lieferando in the advertisements, you need a (e-) bike, a smartphone including data tariff for the company « Courier app » and must be 18 years old. This takes « passion to be outside ».

On the « FAQ » « How do I make money? » It says: « Delivering for Lieferando means that you earn money with every order. The ‘Courier app’ will send you ‘delivery options’, which you can then check to decide whether you want to take over the delivery. » If you are « rider », the company kit can be ordered with a jacket, backpack, helmet in the « Courier-Shop ». Use is not mandatory, but the equipment must meet « minimum security requirements ». Lieferando is the subsidiary of Just Eat Takeaway based in Amsterdam.

Union criticizes « bogus self -employment »

The employees at Lieferando soon no longer benefited from the hard-fought collective agreement because the competition did not want to follow the example, ÖGB President Wolfgang Katzian recently regretted. « If they continue to be employed as self -employed, they probably work in sham self -employment, i.e. without minimum wages, without claiming paid exemption in the event of illness or vacation entitlement, without protection against dismissal and without a vacation entitlement. »

In Austria there has been a collective agreement (KV) for bicycle deliverers since the beginning of 2020. Although it is not very lucrative, it ensures the employee rights mentioned. Since the beginning of 2023, the monthly collective agreement full-time gross income for bicycle messengers has been 1730 euros (net 1440 euros). For comparison: According to Statistics Austria, the risk of poverty in 2023 was 1,572 euros for one one -time budget per month. More recent numbers are not yet available.

In order to counteract this “modern exploitation”, the EU Directive for Platform Work was decided last year 2024, according to which the platform operator must prove independence. « This reversal of the evidence was a central demand for the unions in Europe, » said Katzian. « The EU member states have time until December 2026 to implement the guideline: But that has to happen faster, time is pushing. » Social and Labor Minister, ex-trade unionist Korinna Schumann (SPÖ), had promised a rapid approach of the black-red-pink federal government, it had been called on the day of the great demo of the greater to be announced on April 1st in Vienna.
