The German supermarket chain Lidl is planning to open eighty extra stores in our country by 2038.

« Belgium remains an important growth market for Lidl, » says CEO Marjolein Frederickx on Friday following the completion of the structural work phase of a new distribution center in Herentals. « This distribution center is necessary to continue to provide our current and future stores with fresh products every day. »

The building of 122 million euros will be the sixth and immediately the largest logistics site of Lidl in Belgium. In the long term, 200 people could get started.

For Lidl, the five football fields full of vegetables, fruit and other foods must primarily remove pressure at other distribution centers. In addition, construction must mainly perpetuate the – slow but steady – growth figures of the German chain in our country. In addition to Ahold Delhaize, Lidl is about the only chain with good grades. Colruyt and Carrefour have to hand in and Aldi is stagnating.

Only at the beginning of 2027 does the supermarket chain use the distribution center along the E313. It will then mainly supply stores in the wide region around Antwerp.
