Letter to the editor. Today, Pomperipossa moved into the Swedish electricity system

In 1976, Astrid Lindgren wrote the now classic satire « Pomperipossa in Monismania » About a hard -working children’s book writer who was forced to pay over 100 percent in marginal tax. The more she worked, the more she lost. One wonders if we have not reached the same absurd point in the Swedish electrical system.

An example that illustrates how it defies all logical reasoning occurred the night of May 15. Finland had electric deficiency and was forced to import electricity, showing « Control Room » on Svenska Kraftnät’s website.

Nevertheless, the electricity price in Finland was negative. It’s like getting paid by the bank to take out a loan.

At the same time, forced Electricity consumers in southern Sweden (electricity area SE3) pay an unusually high electricity price, despite the fact that electricity production in SE3 basically covered the local need.

As if that were not enough, data shows that the electric flow between SE3 and Finland is negative, a so -called negative flow. That is, contrary to all market economy principles, electricity goes from a more expensive area to a cheaper one. Now it is not only Finland who gets paid for its loan – it is also SE3 that stands for the bill. This is not just a paradox, but proof that the market model is broken.

I understand that the explanation is technical and is based on Svenska Kraftnät’s new flow -based calculation model and the electricity exchange algorithm Euphemia. But the question remains: should it really be this way?

Why should electricity consumers in Sweden pay the price for a market system that so obviously disadvantages us, while rewarding import -dependent countries with lower prices? Isn’t it time for the government – together with its authorities Svenska Kraftnät and the Energy Market Inspectorate – to take hold of the situation and create an electricity market system that is fair even for Swedish electricity consumers?
