Letter to the editor. The luxury plane shows how Trump turns the United States into an oligarchy

Donald Trumps receiving a luxury aircraft from Qatar Valued at $ 400 million is not just a scandal. It is a symptomatic event that exposes a deep and accelerating democratic decay in the United States.

That the Federal Prosecutor, Pam Bondi – previously paid lobbyist for Qatar – approves the gift without even taking on the caseshows that the institutional protective mechanisms that will prevent abuse of power no longer work. It’s not about subtle gray zones. It is about a country’s highest judicial function that legitimizes a potential bribe from an authoritarian state to a president.

The US Constitution explicitly prohibits federal officials from receiving gifts from foreign governments without Congress’s approval – a principle created to prevent exactly what we now see: economic infiltration of political power. Yet this is completely open, without clear consequences.

What we witness are not individual mistakes, but a normalization of a new political condition where loyalty and capital replaced responsibility and transparency. At the same time, Qatar invests tens of billions in the United States – in aircraft, quantum computers, defense systems and Trump’s own business projects. This is not diplomacy. It is political business in exchange for loyalty.

Criticism has come – but mostly in the form of statements from individual senators. No formal measures, no legal consequences, no systemic reactions. It is as if the system resigned to its own corruption.

The consequences are far -reaching. When ordinary people see that billionaires and authoritarian regimes are treated with silk mittens while being examined, taxed and punished – then the confidence of the entire democratic idea is eroded. A political vacuum is created that is quickly filled with populism, conspiracy theories and extremism.

US is no longer The democratic model once admired. What is happening now – before open curtain – is a warning example of what happens when money is allowed to overshadow principles, and rulers no longer fear responsibility.

Unless the congress, courts and citizens themselves withdraw control of the democratic pillars, the United States risks being turned into something similar to a democracy into the name – but an oligarchy in practice.

It starts with a plane. It ends with a system that can no longer be saved.
