Letter to the editor. The government must tighten its substandard climate policy
This is not enough. This is how one can summarize the Climate Policy Council’s criticism of the government’s climate policy. The government receives criticism in agriculture, energy, industry and transport. We rebel mothers and allies want the government now to tighten its climate policy to save what can be saved – and it is in a hurry.
We write today to pay attention to « Overshoot Day », the day of the year that – if everyone on earth lived as we Swedes – means that the planet’s resources end already on April 10. The rest of the year we live Swedes at the expense of others, not least our children.
The fact that the earth’s resources will suffice for the whole year is already ending in early April is serious enough. Therefore, we require a climate policy that corresponds to the threats we see as climate change: increased risk of forest fires, poisoned water, reduced biodiversity, floods and increased risk of food deficiency. Again, we find that our country’s government unfortunately undermines the strong measures that are de facto required in these times.
With the global 2024 heating at 1.5 degrees the government should quickly control climate work and use both carrot and whip, not least for the industry, so that Sweden reaches the climate goals by 2030.
The measures for measures that counteract extreme climate change decreases at a rapid rate. The government can no longer sit still in the boat and point to other countries’ equally late politics. It is now Sweden needs to tighten its climate policy and have been at the forefront of a more human future for our children and grandchildren – nationally, in the EU and globally.
We therefore demand These climate policy measures:
● Rusta up the country’s train courses and add sufficient resources to public transport.
● Break car dependency and stop subsidizing fuels.
● Make agriculture climate -adapted and increase the incentives for sustainable agriculture.
● Stop cutting the last natural forests.
● Make the cities greener.
● Immediately controls subsidies to the fossil industry against investments that support renewable flow energy (solar, wind and water) and a circular economy.
We in the climate and environmental movement will continue to protest against the government’s inferior climate policy. We need a climate policy that corresponds to the fate of our time. Another life is possible!
Rebel mothers in Sweden’s motto are: non-violence, no debt on individual individuals, we want a sustainable culture, we are inclusive, we value research-based knowledge, always want to equalize power and want to bring about a real and sustainable change.
