Letter to the editor. Stop Swedish arms exports to Israel

When you get untrue, it needs to come to light. Recently, the Inspection for Strategic Products (ISP) released its Report and statistics on Swedish arms exports 2024. The value of arms exports was the highest so far, SEK 29 billion against SEK 18 billion the year before. Exports have been made to a number of undemocratic countries and also to Israel. How can we talk about the importance of peace when money, profit and weapons are what ultimately controls?

Israel is a country investigated by the International Court of Gaza in Gaza. Despite this, Sweden continues to export weapons to Israel with permission from ISP.

A country being investigated for genocide should not be seen as democratic. It is a double morality and a shine of the Swedish government to call for peace in Gaza and at the same time ensure that Swedish companies can make a profit on weapons and people's death.

Even in war There are rules not to attack hospitals, religious buildings or schools – something that Israel has done time and time again. The world tries to equip for peace and security, but peace never comes out of weapons and death.

When will the government be honest about this and wholeheartedly work on several levels for diplomacy and conversation? We cannot seriously talk about peace if we continue to support the weapons industry.
