Letter to the editor. Stop all research in Sweden that can create new pandemics

On December 1, 2019, the first person in Covid-19 fell ill. A new viral infection spread rapidly and caused the largest pandemic in over 100 years. More than seven million people have died and millions have been affected by long -term health problems.

Two main hypotheses about the origin were formulated early: that the virus either jumped from animal to human or that it came from a laboratory accident.

Prominent scientific journals such as The Lancet and Nature supported the zoonotic theory and dismissed lab theory as a conspiracy thinking. Today, however, more and more researchers and public health experts are leaning that the virus may originate in a laboratory.

Five central factors Strengthens this suspicion:

1. Covid-19 broke out in the city of Wuhan, China, where the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) in collaboration with the Chinese military researched on sars-like bat virus.

2. In 2018, WIV, together with the EcoHealth Alliance (led by Dr. Peter Daszak), applied for appropriations for developing a sars -like virus with a Furin Cleavage site – precisely the structure that makes the virus extremely contagious for humans.

3. The research was conducted at BSL-2 level-corresponding to the safety level as in Swedish dental clinics-which meant increased risk of accidents.

4. The outbreak at Huanan Seafood Market only happened after people became ill, which speaks to the fact that the market’s animal was the source of origin.

5. No animal species has been identified as carriers of the virus, unlike Sars and Mers, where infection sources could be traced to animal populations.

December 4th Published the Special Committee of the American House of Representatives for review of pandemic management A comprehensive reportwhich has not been widely circulated in Swedish media. It notes, among other things:

● It is not a conspiracy theory that the pandemic may have been caused by a laboratory accident.

● That the EcoHealth Alliance and Doctor Daszak should not receive more federal research funding.

● That scientific information should be clear, concise and evidence -based.

● That the US National Institutes of Health funded Gain-of-Function research at WIV-a type of research that makes disease-causing organisms more infectious or dangerous.

● That both the Chinese government and parts of the international research community have tried to hide the possible origin of the pandemic.

At the Public Health Authority in Solna Is Sweden’s only BSL-4 laboratory. Is Gain-of-Function research there, or on laboratories with lower safety class? If so, it must be stopped immediately by the Swedish Research Council or other responsible financiers to reduce the risk of future pandemics.
