Letter to the editor. Slip the star course and boycott goods from the United States

Sweden has a long tradition of good cooperation with the United States, the land of opportunities and freedom, where close to one and a half million Swedes emigrated in the late 19th century. It has long been a country of the future for many.

Now the situation has changed. In January, the country got a new president and with him disappeared democracy and freedom.

A darkness spreads across the United States and the world. According to A fresh DN/Ipsos survey Is now 86 percent of Swedes negative to current President Donald Trump, 70 percent look negatively in the United States and only 10 percent have a positive view. Instead, we are turning our eyes to the EU with hopes that together we can further develop democracy and defend Ukraine and EU member states against Russia.

On a bike ride in Stockholm Last Saturday in spring sunshine, my mind was darkened when I noted that the American flag has not yet been hailed at the Grand Hôtel at Strömkajen, nor at Hotel Diplomat on Strandvägen.

Our attitude towards many Americans is still positive, but we need to be vigorously distanced from American politics that it is designed today with harm to the climate, the economy, human rights and democracy.

It is therefore time to replace the American star banner with the EU flag across the country. If we are to resist emotionally straight -back, we also need to stop behind the buying boycott of US goods.
