Letter to the editor. Simple actions can stop the widespread assistance cheating

Now it has come A new report about the extensive fraud with the assistance allowance. Should it really be so difficult to stop these crimes?

A crime arrangement used in a number of cases that led to convictions has looked like the following:

For a person without documented medical history in Sweden, a certificate of disability and this person or any related person is registered as an entrepreneur for activities with assistance. A number of related persons are then registered as assistants. No assistance is mainly conducted, but the registered assistants instead receive a certain amount for standing up with their names. No actual control of alleged disabilities is made and when it is permitted that users and assistants belong to the same closed circle, the authorities are liable for all ongoing control.

Crime of this kind could be prevented as follows:

Disabilities and care needs should only be assessed by doctors or officials approved by the Swedish Social Insurance Agency and this would be given the right to appoint one of the care assistants in all questionable cases. These simple measures would prevent many criminal arrangements.

One wonders if the cause of our politicians’ inability or unwillingness to act in the matter. This crime has been known for many years, not least through the outrageous cases where family -based networks managed to deceive for tens of millions of SEK.

Now that the crime is being noticed in another report, the government will appoint a new investigation. This will come up with its suggestions for measures first in 2027! Maybe you reason as if we lose the election in 2026 so we do not have to address this issue.
