Letter to the editor. Reintroduce the possibility of track change for immigrants

Almost every day you read about people, children and adults to be expelled from Sweden.

● Despite many years here.

● Although they have jobs and pay taxes.

● Although they learned Swedish.

● Although they are integrated into Swedish society.

● Although the children have gone through the entire elementary school time in Sweden.

● Although some are even born in Sweden.

● Although Sweden has invested in primarily the children with schooling and healthcare.

● Although they cannot return to the country they fled from, as the conditions there have not changed. You can still not be an open Christian in Iran for example.

Where are they going?

Let me briefly tell me about the case I know well:

The family came with a child from Iran at the end of 2014. Shortly thereafter, another child was born.

They sought asylum as converts. The authorities in Iran had discovered that they had become Christians and they were sought after. They fled for their lives. There, in the first asylum process, they were not believed, the officers felt that they could not prove that they were genuinely Christians.

The thing is that they are active members of a Christian congregation. None of us other members of the congregation have had to prove our faith by answering such strange and difficult questions that not even all pastors can handle them. In a conversation with the pastor in the congregation, one must answer if you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. « If you believe in your heart and with your mouth confess that Jesus is Lord, » you are welcome as a member.

The family has now had two asylum processes with appeals to the Migration Court and to the Migration Court. Now there is no instance left, as the opportunity to apply for a residence permit by having a permanent job you can support yourself was removed on April 1 (what was called track change).

During this time, the children have been able to go to school, the oldest from F-class through the first year of high school. The youngest; F-class through grade 3.

So they have spent their formative years here in Sweden. According to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which is law in Sweden, this must be taken into account. It has not happened.

The parents have worked. They have been integrated into Swedish society, made friends and want nothing more than to live and work in Sweden and contribute to society with their abilities.

I have written to our national politicians several times, I have appealed to our local politicians to raise these issues through their political channels and now I appeal again:

Do something! Talk to each other! Press to reintroduce the track change! All parties need to think about whatever Sweden we want: a human and human or an inhuman and hard society.
