Letter to the editor. Prioritize Sloped Wage Day for Workers

The Social Democrats now go out with the requirement to abolish the waiting day for all employees. What is not mentioned in the debate is that the waiting day and shorter sick leave for easier ailments, in practice, is gone for a large part of the 1.5 million officials working in Sweden. It is a well -established, non -official practice, that officials work from home when they feel scruffy and thus not suffer from loss of income.

An equally large group of LO members has no opportunity to avoid waiting days and sick leave for shorter periods when their physical presence is required at work. The debate should highlight this injustice and at least prepare proposals to abolish the waiting day for the groups that need it such as nurses, commercial employees, cleaners, healthcare workers, bus drivers and construction workers.

The Social Democrats should Speak clear language about this and not consider costly relief for the hundreds of thousands of officials who do not need it. The fact that the parties that have their voter base in the middle and upper class naturally see this injustice as a non-problem.
