Letter to the editor. Preserve the fine Systembolaget but expand opening hours

You know which of your friends have not been very much abroad, especially those who have never lived outside Sweden – it is those who do not appreciate the Swedish system company. They talk about « prohibition Sweden », the land of the milk and make DDR wishes.

They do not know what asset the company is for those who like good food and good wine. Throughout Paris there is not a single wine or liquor store with the same wide selection as my company here at Södermalm.

And even less in the large department stores like Monoprix. There, the selection of vegetables and meat is larger than in some Swedish grocery stores. First you are impressed by the long shelves with wine bottles. But if you look closer, you find that it is almost only French wines, not the huge selection as in the Swedish state stores.

At the company you can also get good advice on what to buy. They are not trying to punch on one of the most expensive bottles. And if there is something that does not exist, they order it. When I was going to buy Pernod it was over, but they took it home after a few days.

When Systembolaget was started once in a while, Sweden was a sprouted country and the monopoly was motivated for sobriety reasons. It may be needed even now, what do I know.

But today, the company is especially for us who want to eat and drink well. They offer options that no papers Farm sales can offer.

Fixed opening hours should be liberalized. The stores should be open even on Sundays. But that prices are high is not due to the monopoly, but on the taxes.
