Letter to the editor. Only charge the power charge when the load is at its greatest
Electricity grid companies are starting now introduce power fees to limit power peaks in their networks. It is understandable to reduce the need to expand capacity in the networks when the electrification of society accelerates. However, the way the companies do this can be called into question.
When companies calculate the power fee by looking at the average power of three individual hours over one month and where high power outlets at night are counted, the possibility for electricity customers to use cheap hours is made more difficult when the load on the electricity grid is low.
This fee model also makes it more difficult for electric car users, who want to charge their car at home. As a result, the transition from fossil -powered vehicles to electric cars is counteracted – another cane in the wheel for the necessary climate change.
The important must be to even out the power outlet over the day. An extra fee for high power outlets should therefore be limited to the hours when the power load on the electrical system is greatest. The electricity companies have good statistics for what hours of day it applies.
Such a pricing would make it easier for electric car owners to continue charging their cars with high power at home, which is often needed if it is to be practical to drive an electric car. It gets better for the climate!
