Letter to the editor. Let Vattenfall and LKAB pay PostNord’s loss
The Post and Telecom Agency has decided that Postnord should provide universal letter services throughout Sweden. The current assignment covers the period from 1 April 2025 through 2027.
This service refers to written messages (ie letters) weighing a maximum of 2 kilos. At least 95 percent of domestic letters must have been distributed within two subsequent weekdays.
Some of the state requires good service and another part of returns, for the same company. They become a difficult task for Postnord, which is 60 percent owned by the Swedish state (the rest is owned by the Danish state).
Postnord can hardly raise the postage further. The postage for letters of max 50 grams costs macabra SEK 22 today. It is more expensive than 1.5 liters of milk.
Calculated in sales, PostNord is the state’s third largest company after the Energy Fair Vattenfall and the mining company LKAB.
Both waterfall and LKAB are dairy cows for the state. Waterfall went with a profit at SEK 33.4 billion last year. At the same time, LKAB made a profit of SEK 8.7 billion.
The government should admit Losses for Postnord (approximately SEK 0.7 billion this year). This money is taken again at LKAB and Vattenfall. What you lose on the swings, you take again on the carousels. Therefore, keep Postnord intact and do not raise the postage anymore!
