Letter to the editor. Help Palestinian children to receive Swedish healthcare

As the son of a Jewish mother who was rescued from the Holocaust of British Quakers, I am aware that it is better to rescue a single child than not to rescue anyone at all.

And as a social anthropologist who teaches humanitarian efforts, I know that an individual’s story can be more captivating than statistics on mass extinction.

DN’s political editor Amanda Sokolnicki recently prompted Sweden to join Norway and the eleven other EU countries that have taken in Palestinian children to receive medical care.

Here’s a plan To encourage the Swedish government to do so:

DN could publish – alone or in collaboration with other media – a front page article every day about a child in Gaza, Like their last story: « Rahaf Ayad is twelve years – and weighs as many pounds. She has a hard time recognizing herself on old pictures taken before the war, when she had shiny hair and a lively smile. »

Every day there would be a question to the readers: « Would you be willing to help pay for this child’s care at Karolinska University Hospital if the Swedish government does not block her passage to Sweden? »

Thousands of readers would certainly help to pay the care.

In the breath By Mahatma Gandhi’s non -violence, the question would force Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) and Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) to show the world if they have decency and spine to stand up against the Sweden Democrats.

To bring Rahaf Ayad and other severely affected children from compulsive de -magic to the world’s fifth best hospitals (According to Newsweek) would be a mercy document and a poetic reprimand by the perpetrators.
