Letter to the editor. Do what you can as a consumer to protect the forest
The forest issue is highly current. The EU offers protection and restoration of forests.
At the same time, demand for forest raw material is increasing. Among other things, because the fossil should be phased out and replaced by other things, part of it from the forest, and that the packaging industry is high. How will it go together?
No, it does not go together. It is bedded for conflict of interest.
Only about 20 percent of the forest raw material Goes to long -lived products. The rest goes to short-lived wear and toss products such as toa and paper towels and packaging.
All the paper we surround ourselves with in everyday life comes from the forest. How many of us think that the pizza box is a piece of forest trees when we carry it home?
Can we, you and I participate in reducing the demand for the short -lived to reduce the pressure on the forest? Do we want it?
We leave paper And packaging for recycling, but you can’t recycle the collected as many times as possible. Can we do something more?
Maybe pull in on some car ride to reduce the access of biofuels (reduction obligation)? And do we have to buy coffee in cardboard mug and drink while we transport somewhere?
We order goods from the other side of the globe, goods that are sent here by air in different types of packaging. Things that we can usually buy close and carry home at a bag. Maybe we save a few bucks that we can consume more for, but is it worth it, if we think about? Really careful!
Man is an inventive And creative creature. We certainly solve this conflict of interest so that access and access are in line. But it will take time, and it will not go by itself.
The more cartons we use, the more forest trees need to be cut down. But the resources of the earth and the forest are finite.
So what do we want, when we think about, really carefully? Stretch against or « pull as many straws to the stack » as we can?
To protect the forest.
