Letter to the editor. Build more homes for young people to increase childbirth
The birth rate per woman in our country is now the lowest that was measured and amounted in 2024 to 1.43 children per woman in fertile age, which is alarmingly low.
Politicians’ ability to influence childbirth is limited, but what they can do to make it easier for young people to form a family and have children is to help them to their own home. Moving around between temporary accommodation does not encourage children with a ruck.
A completely realistic measure would be to start an extensive subsidized construction of smaller housing reserved for young people. The system could be expanded to guarantee every couple or single woman who is expecting a child a home. Such a reform would also provide the stimulation to the construction industry that the industry demands.
What our government now instead want to do is to greatly raise the root deduction. With this, they claim to benefit the construction industry.
Certainly it will give jobs to a number of craftsmen, but above all, it will further favor an already favored group, namely well -ordered owners of villas and condominiums.
It is a group that has already received benefits such as abolished property tax, wealth tax, inheritance tax and gift tax and which also often comes to enjoy the generous interest deduction.
For the many Young people, who should get help with housing so that they can form a family and have children, however, our politicians have nothing to offer.
