Letter to the editor. Avoid climate policy being expensive for the Swedish people
The government’s climate policy is not enough to reach Sweden’s own goals or the EU’s common goals.
It has consequences – not only for the climate, but also for the Swedish economy.
The government’s climate policy is not enough to achieve Sweden’s own climate goals or the EU’s common goals. It has consequences – not only for the climate, but also for the Swedish economy.
If we do not live up To EU requirements, Sweden can be forced to buy emission rights from other countries, if there are even any to buy. Otherwise, fines for several billion are waiting. Money that should instead go to a fair climate change here in Sweden.
More than 70 percent of the population, according to the World Nature Fund’s climate barometer, is worried about the climate crisis and wants the government to do more. Nevertheless, the government chooses to pull the brake – in the middle of a climate crisis.
We will not escape the transition. The question is just how expensive and painful it will be.
Here are some necessary steps As the government should take:
● The state should take overall responsibility for financing and ensure that the climate targets are superior.
● Invest in renewable energy such as sun and wind power.
● Fail fossil subsidies and direct support for increased equality across the country.
● Increase carbon storage – prohibit peat mining and invest in natural forestry.
● Subvention and expand public transport and facilitate pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
Swedish people deserves leadership in the climate issue – not empty promises and unnecessary billion fines.
