The message enclosed in a bottle survived 120 years, hiding a moving letter written with a straight blacksmith’s hand. In several paragraphs he wrote a personal reflection and a picture of everyday life of Poles living under Russian partition. Today, when we read his words, we have the impression that the past spoke again – honestly, painfully, with hope.

This extremely rare and valuable find saw the light of day on May 16 during the dismantling of the cross on the tower of the gate of the monastery. He was in a glass bottle A handwritten letter dated May 9, 1905. It was written by Karol Szulc – a local blacksmith who decided to capture the difficult realities of life on the Russian partition on paper.
