Today came the sentence of Mauricio Cavaco: « Penalty suspended and psychiatric treatment » after he and his mother lived a lifetime of domestic violence at the hands of the parent. The crime occurred in December 2023 at the Family House, in the village of Várzea do Vinagre, in the parish of Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo, in the district of Faro, when the young man, at the time of 20 years, intervened in defense of his mother, killing his father, 63. Over the past 10 years, Mauritius has told the constant abuses, threats and humiliations that he and his mother have suffered in the hands of the parent. The president judge said that despite the horror lived by Mauritius, it was proved that he killed his own ‘father’, a crime by which he must be held responsible because he cannot do justice by his own hands. However, given the horror lived by Mauricio and the fact that the victims were so often unprotected, a unique sentence and to greet in Portugal: « Suspended penalty and psychiatric treatment ».

I know everyone in the village knew Mauritius, knew the temperament and attitudes of his parent, and there were many who were willing to witness in his favor in court so that he was not a victim of his parent, the failed justice and what made him this crime. May it always be like this. So that the risk is not at the same time, to have the two young people who, because they witnessed the parent’s constant aggressions to their mother, are also accused of doing ‘popular justice’ or by their own hands. Since true justice is too long to arrive or fail too many times, so they kill their own parent to defend their mother. However, the two young people who are in pre -trial detention and may be sentenced to 25 years in prison, if the judge or the judge, condemn them for the crime, does not have the extraordinary sensitivity that had the judge’s president of the case of Mauricio, prolonging the suffering of these young people and his mother to infinity.

We must stop blaming the true victims, stopping protecting the executioners who lead them to take extreme actions of defense of mothers who for endless years, were rags in the hands of the aggressors, causing serious psychological disorders to their children. The sentence imposed by the aggressor with the lack of speed of justice should not be perpetuated. It is urgent to immediately defend mothers and children, who are the true victims of these stories. So that there are no more young people in these situations, sign the petition, because it is also theirs, the eternal victims who witness terror under their ceilings, which we speak and care for.
