« Let no one else can do it for me » – Liberation
« I knew very early that I wanted to call my new album Backstage Because the best way to achieve something unique is that it is as intimate and private as possible. That no one else can do it for me. The backstage zone is a place where people are generally never invited, but to which I wanted to access my listeners. My phone is filled with backstage photos and I first looked at these images as a potential disc pocket. But I had the impression that none of them may have been good enough. ”
“Last year, we played in London, the David Roberts Art Foundation, a little away from Camden. During the scales, I looked out the window, above the courtyard, exactly the same view as the disc cover. I consider myself the photographer, even if I did not take the photo. I offered a guy who worked with us: « Can you hold the device like that? » And I ran, and I sat at this window. It was very spontaneous. When later, I looked at this photo, I found that I was really hidden in the dark and we had to clear up to make me a little more visible. ”
“I like this view of the courtyard which seems extremely British and even very London with an orange healthy bag in the middle and a tea box on the edge of the window. The United Kingdom has always had an enormous influence on my work, and this is the place where I was still traveling when I was a child. Later, I went to London to buy records, clothes, to go out in a club and visit art galleries. What influences you teen is for life. «
« The more I look at this photo, the more I like to be hidden, to be in a private corner corresponding to this backstage idea. I like the general atmosphere where, unlike other pockets, I am not in the center of attention. Melancholy and sadness have always been present in my work and show this with an image, it is not easy. But I felt that this photo rimed well with the loneliness that we can feel while listening to the album. ”
