It is a (very) negative picture that emerged from the second « Observatory on psychological well -being in Italian companies » of Serenis and the University of Padua. Between possible solutions short week and total flexibility

Italians at work are always worse: if in 2023 to highlight a growing psychological malaise It was 49.4% of employees (practically one in two), today the incidence touched 61%. This would be enough to make news, but there is another given that – however connected – leaves even more speechless: Less than one in five – 17% – have « a good level of mental and psychological well -being ». This was reported by the second edition of the research project « Observatory on psychological well -being in Italian companies »drawn up by the Serenis online medical center and the Department of Economic and Business Sciences of the University of Padua on the basis of the responses provided by a sample of Over 1,200 employed Nostrani aged between 18 and over 60 years (for 77.6% women and 81% in possession of a three -year degree).

The disinterest of the employers

To oppose similar critical issues, it could be adequate attention to the theme by employers. Instead – it is learned -,, 57.8% of the respondents said that their company shows an « extremely low » level of attention to this area (growing compared to 52.9% two years ago). And to think that, as a question « how much does mental well -being at work matters, from 1 to 10? », Ben 62.8% of the detection participants even crossed the maximum vote. In this point of view, in the opinion of the director of the training of Serenis Martina Best « very often companies struggle to understand that well -being does not build with benefits, but with environments in which people can express themselves, feel listened to and free to make mistakes. Where there are no autonomy and psychological security, it is easier for anxiety, dissatisfaction and detachment ».

The wish list

Ready to use solutions to start moving in the right direction? First of all prepare Psychological support programsexplicitly mentioned by 85.3% of the sample. Following health checks and prevention campaigns (49.9%) and mentoring initiatives (39.3%), but the difference could also prove to be the Four -day short week. From this point of view, 47.2% of the interviewees said that there would be up to 10% of the salary in order to work only one day less, even if in presence and with fixed times. About three out of ten employees, however, would go up to -20% for work remotely with fixed times (30.8%, to be precise) or to have « Total flexibility » in terms of both place and time (26.2%).

The importance of flexibility

“Many companies use it Smart Working To meet particular needs of groups of workers or as a form of « prize » to attract talents, « commented Martina Gianecchini, a associated professor of human resources at the University of Padua. The research, however, showed that there is much more: « The value assigned to hourly flexibility and work is not only symbolicso much so that the workers are willing to sacrifice part of their salary for this, « he concluded. Overall, a picture completely consistent with that emerged from a widespread white paper right in recent days from the Indeed platform in collaboration with the School of Management of the Polytechnic of Milan which highlighted how for the workers (or future such) of the Z generation to be able to enjoy a adequate corporate welfare and a satisfactory work-life Balance both (almost) equally essential compared to perceiving a salary in line with their skills.
