Left Party’s conflict: Delgado Varas and Anti -Semitism

It was at a meeting on May 3 that the party board concluded that MP Lorena Delgado Varas must submit his assignments in the Left Party. The motivation was, among other things, that she shared an anti -Semitic image in social media, but also other events – which were considered « judgmental » – added to her.

Prior to the meeting, the party’s executive committee (VU) formulated a written decision basis that DN has taken note of. In VU sits, among others, party leader Nooshi Dadgostar and party secretary Maria Forsberg.

The document describes In -depth how Lorena Delgado Va’s actions is considered to harm the party. Since V has also previously had problems with representatives who have expressed himself anti -Semitic, the opponents can point to a pattern of anti -Semitism « which is now also found on the party board and the parliamentary group ».

But the relationship with other opposition parties is also adversely affected, according to VU’s reasoning. The document states that both the Social Democrats and the Environment Party « signaled anxiety and frustration over the situation and have given signals that they think it is unsustainable ».

The document warns that this gives the Social Democrats « the opportunity to mark against the Left Party to avoid managing our requirement to be part of a government ».

The background is that under Nooshi Dadgostar’s leadership, it has become a central goal to make V a government -capable party. The aim is set on ministerial posts after the 2026 election.

Vu warns that accusations If anti -Semitism can block the party in the upcoming electoral movement. « Sure we have answers to that, but it is a completely different discussion than the one that brings us closer to election success, change of government and change in Sweden, » VU writes in the document.

It is pointed out that the Palestine issue and criticism of Israel’s war in Gaza is central to the party, but activism is also described as problematic:

« There is a need for a crime with the part of the so-called Palestine movement that is regularly growing area for anti-Semitism and incitement against the Left Party ».

At the same time, it is found that the whole story creates severe divisions in the party:

« Both internally and in the party’s vicinity, the criticism is quite extensive that the party leadership is considered to have acted too hard against » Palestine activists « (…) and been too silent against the genocide. It is not true, but that picture has a pretty big foothold, » the document states.

A call on the net with the heading « Backa Lorena » has currently collected around 3,500 signatures from members, voters and party associations. Several members of parliament have also gone out open and protested against Lorena Delgado Varas being excluded from the parliamentary group.

Dagens Nyheter has sought party secretary Maria Forsberg who declined an interview but comments in writing:

« Of course, there has been a proper basis for the party board to be able to make a well -balanced decision. But it is an internal document that we do not comment on in the media. »
