Lecturer accused of abusing carp. Shocking allegations
The Kraków-Biały District Prosecutor’s Office sent an indictment to the court against Hanna L., scientific staff of the University of Agriculture. She was accused of cruelty to animals. The allegations that weigh on the lecturer relate to the brutal methods of carp euthanasia used during educational classes.

The case saw the light of day ago. During the class, the lecturer was to cut off the head of the carp without prior stunning fish. Everything was recorded in the film.
– The recordings I saw shocked me deeply. It is shocking that in our time, in a veterinary direction, such practices occur – says Anna Plaszczyk from the Viva! Foundation, commenting on film material, which revealed inhumanitarian treatment of fish.
According to the coat, the university’s activities focused on determining the author of the recordings. This resulted in threats and irregularities in assessing the student, as a consequence he was even removed from the list of students. After a while, however, he appealed to the court and won the case.
Anna Plaszczyk emphasizes that there are guidelines for the European Union regulating issues Humanitarian treatment of animalsincluding fish. Lack of knowledge or ignoring these principles by a university, which should be a model for respect for animal life and welfare, is alarming.
Investigators charged the lecturer
The Krakow prosecutor’s office charged the lecturer. – Carps were in the wrong way. There were too many of them in one container, in very dirty conditions. The second accusation, in turn, concerns the fact that they were improperly deprived of life, without their prior stun. According to an expert opinion in the field of veterinary medicine, all these activities caused the suffering of animals-prosecutor Oliwia Bożek-Michalec, spokesman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Krakow, explained in an interview with Radio Kraków.
The university, which first suspended the professor in the classes, conducted internal proceedings and did not see any mistakes. Hanna L. still lectures at the University of Agriculture.
The lecturer will soon answer before the Krakow court. After a year of investigation, the prosecutor’s office had just sent an indictment to court.
