Leasing of used cars: trends and forecasts

In the Russian Federation, the demand for the purchase of mileage cars is gaining momentum. Low prices, a large assortment and profitable offers stimulate sales, while the segment of new machines continues to contract against the background of high bets. The trend will continue due to the accumulated large drains that need to be implemented.

Sales of used cars to leasing in January -April grew against the backdrop of a sharp fall in the segment of new cars, it follows from the Kommersant survey among leasing companies. This is primarily explained by more profitable prices and the breadth of the assortment, said Anatoly Perfiliev, director of banking ratings of the RA. “The purchase of vehicles in operation is a reasonable choice for business in the current economic situation,” said Nikolai Fomin, director of the Gazprombank Autolizing Sales Department.

Positive dynamics are also associated with active sales of drains, which, as Kommersant wrote (see “Kommersant” from April 10), previously reached a record for the history of volumes. Lessors try to give the former use of the machine in order to remove the load on capital, partially compensating for losses, explains Suren Asaturov, director of the group of ratings of financial institutions, ARRA.

According to the study of Gazprombank Autolizing and the agency of Ped, the aggregate sales of vehicles with leasing vehicles (excluding special equipment) in the Russian Federation in January -April grew by 0.8% year to 23.2 thousand pieces, in April – 1%, up to 7 thousand pieces. Positive dynamics is fixed in total for all segments, but the largest, according to the Kommersant survey, for cars. Although Sergey Shishkin, the Director of Legal Affairs of Interlizing, also notes high demand in the truck segment: “This is the answer to the crisis through which carriers pass. To many clients, the current market situation makes it possible to purchase equipment with a significant discount. ”

In the Alfa Leasing Group of Companies, they fix the growth in sales of automobile equipment with mileage for January-April by 15% year, and in April-by 70%. The Europlane was informed “Kommersant” about the growth of sales of machine sales in the first four months by 4% in annual terms, and in “Interlizing” – by 37% (excluding special equipment). According to “Fleet Autolizing” (included in the “Insight Leasing”), the total volume of vehicles with used vehicles for January -April exceeded 50% of sales of such cars for the entire last year. Sberlizing confirms Kommersant in an increase in the sale of used cars: in four months the company sold more than 200 pieces by 800 million rubles. “Growth is associated with a strategy for the implementation of leasing objects from flow into repeated leasing,” says Sberlizing. The Gazprombank Autolizing assess the increase in the implementation for the indicated period by 30%, up to 2.9 thousand units of equipment with mileage. The share of such cars in the total sales of the company increased from 14% to 24%, Nikolai Fomin said.

Waste cars from leasing companies (seized equipment) can be purchased both in leasing and under the contract of sale, resemble market participants. According to Kommersant, a number of companies also have an increase in the number of transactions over the second channel. In Alfaling, in absolute meaning, the implementation for cash has grown three times. “Basically, cars are bought in this way,” says Maxim Agadzhanov, managing director of the company.

At the same time, the drains of leasing companies continue to grow, most interlocutors surveyed by Kommersant. The average increase, according to Mr. Agadzhanov, is twice the amount of implementation. Sergei Shishkin predicts a further increase in stocks. Although Mr. Fomin believes that the growth of seizures passed its peak and the drains of the main players reached the plateau. However, the competition in the market of seized equipment in the leasing segment is very high, he adds. “To attract the client, large players are actively working on packaging, services and sales channels,” the top manager notes.

Most Kommersant interlocutors in leasing companies predict the growth in sales of used cars in 2025. “Leasing companies have accumulated huge runoff, which must be sold primarily to leasing,” says Alexei Smirnov, CEO of Flit Autolizing. Nikolai Fomin is sure that the trend for the growth of leasing transactions in the segment of mileage techniques will remain against the background of a high key rate.
