Leasing companies after the dealers collided with an excess of automotive equipment. The volumes of seizures of cars from customers have increased against the backdrop of a decrease in the solvency of business. As a result, drainage is estimated in a record 30 thousand pieces, of which almost 50% falls on a cargo segment. A number of lesslers in this regard are thinking about creating their own points of sales of vehicles with mileage, and some of the analysts sees in high reserves a threat to the market of new trucks.
Car drainage of Russian leasing companies reach record volumes: according to estimates of market participants and analysts, they are about 30 thousand pieces. As the Kommersant source notes, there were no similar precedents before, clarifying that the negative trend began last year. According to the director of banking ratings of the expert RA, Anatoly Perfiliev, the volume of cars seized on the balance sheets of leasing companies increased by more than three times in 2024. The reasons are a decrease in the solvency of business in connection with high credit rates and rising prices for leasing items due to increased utilsbor, experts and market participants surveyed by Kommersant.
According to Kommersant’s source in a large leasing company, the total drain of cars is about 30 thousand units, of which almost 50% falls on a truck.
A similar assessment is given by the Director of the Department of Development of the Business « Gazprombank Liding » Vyacheslav Mikhailov. The Europlane estimates its own stock of 3.5 thousand pieces, clarifying that 40% falls on cars, 31% – for trucks, 9% for self -propelled equipment, 18% – on semi -trailers, 2% – on trailers and buses. “At the same time, about 60% of the drain is transferred to repeated leasing,” the company notes. Most of the market participants refused to disclose “Kommersant” data on seizures, but they confirmed the problem of stocks.
Many lesslers are now learning to work with drains: to properly evaluate equipment and sell, says Vasily Nastirov, head of the management and support of the seized technique of Gazprombank Autoism. “In fact, we go in the direction of creating our own points of sales, in which it will be more convenient for customers to choose from a whole spectrum of vehicles presented in types,” he says. One of the sources “Kommersant” notes that leasing companies can begin to compete with dealers to a certain extent, but the other believes that the direct competition of speech is not yet due to the volume of the market. “The mileage market last year amounted to 6 million cars and 218 thousand trucks. And leasing drains, according to various estimates, make up 30-50 thousand pieces, ”he explains.
Most of the seized cars in drains are cargo equipment, follows from the results of the Kommersant survey.
KAMAZ CEO Sergey Kogogin evaluated the drains of lesslers at 20 thousand trucks. According to the CEO of Avtostat, Sergei Tselikov, such high reserves can adversely affect the market of new trucks, which is now undergoing a crisis against the backdrop of demands and high rates chosen over previous years (see Kommersant on April 2). “Instead of buying new cars, companies can purchase mileage cars from the same leasing company,” the expert notes, clarifying that the equipment seized from lessons was mainly acquired by a new one. The average age of trucks in drains, according to Kommersant sources, is about three to five years.
The director of the group of ratings of financial institutions of ARKRA Alla Borisova clarifies that the largest share of the exemptions fell on Chinese equipment, which was bought in leasing in 2022–2023, sometimes at a risk of shortage and uncertainty in the market. “In previous years, leasing was the technique of mainly European, Japanese, American brands, that is, familiar to the market from the point of view of its operation, changes in price and demand,” the expert explains. Therefore, she notes, the implementation of such equipment at a market price did not generate losses of leasing companies. Trucks of Chinese brands are lost in price noticeably faster than European ones, and for some customers it can be more profitable to return the equipment by buying a new one at a lower price, the Kommersant source indicates.
In order to actively implement drains that lead to additional costs, at least due to rent, lesslers offer customers discounts, says Anatoly Perfiliev.
Vasily fast also notes a tendency to “interesting conditions” of sales of seized equipment in repeated leasing. The commercial director of Interlizing Sergey Zharkov indicates that the market has a demand for the assignment of leasing rights to equipment purchased in 2022–2023, since the value of these agreements is lower than current market offers.
Some of Kommersant interlocutors among lesslers talk about the continuation of the growth of seizures. Although Mr. Bystrov notes that the peak has been passed, the trend will decline from the second quarter. “But the forecast greatly depends on the economic situation, the key rate of the Central Bank and the support measures from the state,” he summarizes.
