Le Pen claims to be the victim of « political judgment »
The historic leader of the French far-right, sentenced Monday for diversion of funds from the European Parliament, was a victim of a « political » sentence that aims to prevent « the favorite for presidential elections to apply » in 2027.
In her first reaction to the court ruling, which disables her to public office for five years, Marine Le Pen qualified her of “politics” and denounced “reserved for authoritarian regimes”, promising to fight for presidential candidacy within two years.
« I won’t let me easily eliminate. I will present an appeal that allows you to introduce me as a candidate, » he said in a television interview.
Le Pen, leader of the National Union Parliamentary Group (RN, in the French acronym), was today sentenced by the Paris Court to four years in prison, two of which are not suspended and subject to an electronic surveillance system, a fine of 100,000 euros and five years of ineligibility, immediately and applied even in case of appeal.
The potential presidential candidate of RN and eight French MEPs of the National Union were considered guilty of diverting public funds from the European Parliament.
