Ghent/Sint-Martens-Latem

A lawyer from the Ghent counter had to answer for the police judge on Friday. With 2.3 promille in the blood, he lost control of his vehicle and drove through a fence. According to the public prosecutor, the man then also committed a flight crime, but he denies that.

On June 16 last year, the lawyer lost control of the wheel in Sint-Martens-Latem. He rode a pole, after which his passenger car went through a fence. The car was total losson which the man walked home on foot. Afterwards he turned out to have 2.3 promille in the blood.

On Friday, the lawyer had to answer to the police judge for this. His lawyer, Jan de Winter, tried to outline the context. « It’s a one -off misstep. The man had been to football with friends and then to a café. It was not the intention to crawl into the car, but it happened anyway. »

According to the attorney, the lawyer was guilty of fleeing crime, but that denied his counsel. « At most it is not about staying on the spot, » said De Winter. The public prosecutor progressed four months driving ban and 4,000 euros, the re -taking of medical and psychological tests and especially an alcohol lock.

The lawyer tried to convince the court that « alcohol consumption was a snapshot then ». « It’s not a man who has problems, » said De Winter. « Tests from the period of the accident until March confirm that too. We therefore ask the court not to impose an alcohol lock on. »

The defendant himself acknowledges his mistake: « I am especially happy that there were no victims. » The police judge judges on 6 June. Especially the judge wanted to think again about the possible flight crime. « But an alcohol lock does not seem necessary in this case. »
