Law Firm concludes agreement with Donald Trump
The agreement comes after Donald Trump has signed presidential order, which is directed directly at the companies’ operations. Among other things, the orders limited the agencies’ lawyers from gaining access to government buildings and threatened to terminate federal contracts with their clients.
Trump has accused the companies of « reinforcing » the legal system against him and his allies, writes Reuters news agency. The president criticizes the agencies for pursuing issues that he is opposed and believes that the companies have ties to his political opponents.
On Friday announced Donald Trump on The platform Truth Social that agreements with five law firms had been concluded. Four of the companies ran legal proceedings that questioned Trump’s policies during his first term, Reuters writes.
The agreements are similar to the previous agreements and mean that the companies offer the president free work on issues agreed by the parties. It has previously been shown to be about, among other things, anti -Semitism and support for veterans. Reuters writes that the free work in total is worth $ 600 million. In addition, the presidential administration demands that the agencies avoid employment methods based on diversity.
The agencies included in the agreement are Kirkland & Ellis, A&O Shearman, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP and Latham & Watkins LLP. In a joint statement, the companies say that the agreement does not contravene their principles.
Last month started Trump signs presidential order that makes work difficult for some law firms, including some who have pushed legal cases against the administration. Among other things, Trump has withdrawn the security rating for several agencies, which has meant that the lawyers cannot take on some assignments because they are not allowed to handle certain documents.
The president’s actions are likely to go on the country’s constitution, according to several judges. Three law firms have also had their limitations temporarily stopped by judges. But Trump has continued to give in to individual companies, which previously got four agencies to conclude agreements with the administration. Doug Emhoff, whose wife Kamala Harris lost the presidential election against Donald Trump, is a partner on a company that signed such an agreement in early April.
