Lavrov: Despite the difficult situation in the world, Iran and Russia are developing relations

Relations between the two countries are developing dynamically, despite a very difficult situation in the region and in the world, despite attempts to put pressure to limit the development of both Iran and the Russian Federation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a news conference following a meeting with his Iranian counterpart.

One of the topics they discussed was opposed to one -sided illegal sanctions.

« They create problems not only for the countries they are applied against, but they create even greater problems for the countries that these restrictions are introduced and for international trade, because they strongly limit the freedom of competition, » Lavrov said.

He added that the cooperation had agreed to continue minimizing and reducing the effect of these sanctions to zero, both within international platforms and at the bilateral level.

According to him, they are fully convinced that they will succeed.

He added that on April 8, the State Duma ratified the agreement on a comprehensive strategic partnership with Iran, and on April 16 the Federation Council adopted the Law on Ratification.

« We are confident that the entry into force of this historical document will have the most positive impact on our cooperation in all areas, » he said.

Trade between the two countries is increasing despite sharp sanctions the West has imposed on Russia and Iran.

« I think the negotiations were useful, timely and we will continue to implement the principled agreements of our presidents, » Lavrov said, adding that he would remain in constant contact with his Iranian counterpart.

Aragci then stressed that relations between Russia and Iran had never reached such a high level.

They also referred to the upcoming negotiations between Iran and the United States, which will be held tomorrow. Iran, according to Aragci, will participate in talks with full will and seriousness in order to seek a solution to Iran’s peaceful nuclear program. He also stated that the Iranian side doubts the sincerity of the US intentions.

« The unrealistic demands will only reduce the possibility of reaching an agreement, » Aragci said.

However, he added, if there are no unrealistic requirements, reaching an agreement is quite possible.

Lavrov then stressed that Russia was ready to help and mediate these negotiations, in the interest of the two countries, but exclusively within the nuclear issue, without unnecessary topics.

Russia believes that US-Iranian talks are at risk of « burdening » with issues that are not related to the nuclear program.
