Latvian hockey players at the World Cup meet with the Starry Canadian Team / Day

Sub -group A match in Avicii Arena will begin at 5:20 pm Latvian time, broadcast live on LTV7.

The Latvian team started the tournament yesterday with a 4: 1 victory over France, while the Canadians beat the Slovenians with a 4: 0 win.

Slovenia with Slovakia will compete in Stockholm today at 1:20 pm, but at 21.20 the Finnish and French teams will step on the ice, while Herning B will be in the US and Hungary, Germany and Kazakhstan, as well as Norway and the Czech Republic. The games will be available on the LTV7 channel and on the website « lsm.lv/hokey ».

Sweden has six points in two games, with Canada, Finland and Latvia scoring three points in one game, but Austria has two matches, and France, Slovenia and Slovakia have played one game.

The Latvians have played 14 times with Canadian hockey players in the division and won one victory – in 2021, Riga managed to beat the titled rivals in the opening game by 2: 0. This did not stop the Canadians in the end of the championship, but the Latvian team did not reach the quarterfinals and remained only in 11th place.

The last two matches were played for the Latvian team in the historic championship two years ago, where initially in Riga the home side conceded with 0: 6, but then in the semi -finals recognized the Canadian lead with a 2: 4 lead. The Canadians then won their 28th World Championships, but Latvia was at the first medals in history, winning bronze medals.

In this pre -Olympic year, the Canadian team gave the World Cup a long -standing starry line -up – experienced Sidney Crosby, Neitan McKinon, Breiden Shenn, Bo Croat, Ryan O’Railie and goalkeeper Mark -Andre Flerie, as well as the new star Maclin Seline.

Only one hockey player from the Canadian national team is not the National Hockey League (NHL) player – 22 -year -old goalkeeper Dylan Garand. He guarded the New York Rangers Farm Club in the American Hockey League last season (AHL) Harford’s Wolf Pack. Three years ago, with the Canadian U-20 team, he has the World Junior Championship Gold.

For the time being, the Canadian team has announced 20 players on the field and two goalkeepers, with St. Louis ‘Blues’ main goalkeeper George Binington outside the application. There are three more players in the application for Canadians. The Latvian team, on the other hand, has less than one player on the field, leaving four free places.

Latvian hockey players will play the third game of the World Cup on Tuesday at 5:20 pm against Slovenia, a day later at 9.20 pm with housewife Sweden, on Saturday at 1:20 pm, you will have to use the Finnish team, May 18 at 9.20 pm with Slovakia and the final group game on May 20 at3.20.

In the second group, Herning plays in Denmark, Czech, German, USA, Kazakhstan, Norway, Switzerland and Hungary.

The 16 teams start in the tournament are divided into two groups, with eight teams each, which guarantees seven games for each team. The top four teams in each group will continue their battle for medals in the quarterfinals, but the weakest teams in both groups will leave the strongest division, and will be replaced by Britain and Italy next year.

Last year, the Czechs triumphed in the World Championships in their field, beating Switzerland by 2-0 in a crucial match, but Sweden won the bronze medals with a 4: 2 win over the Canadian national team. The Latvian national team ranked ninth, although he won four wins in the sub -group.

This year’s World Cup in Herning and the Swedish capital, Stockholm, will take place from 9 to 25 May. Group B games and two quarter -final matches will take place in Herning, while Stockholm will also host two quarter -final duties, semi -final games and medals.

The Latvian national team game in Stockholm has also gone to the LETA team – sports news reporter Aivars Andriksons and photographer Eddie Palens – to keep track of the events of the championship from the venue.
