Latvian animation representatives go to Ansie Film Festival and Film Market / Day

Ansie International Animation Film Festival called Animation Mecca (June 8-14 this year) and in parallel to the film market MIFA (Marché International du Film d’Inimation, This year 10-13 in June) for 66 years, the world’s leading animation professionals have been gathering and reached a visit record last year – more than 16,000 accredited industry professionals participated in the festival; This year, Ansie’s festival programs have been selected from 3900 films submitted from 100 countries around the world. For several years now, this important forum has been represented in Latvia’s animation – both with films at the festival shows and the Baltic animation stand in the film market.

This year’s Latvian animation programs will be represented by the new director Andrejs Brīvulis’ animation short film Cleanliness/Cleanlinessbased on the poet of the poet Karlis Vērdiņš in the poem of the same name and, when swinging humorous moments and bitter revelations, reveals the daily life of an office worker. The short film made in the computer -based technique, created as part of the director’s studies at the Latvian Academy of Arts, is included in the Ansie Student Film Competition and will be screened in four screenings.

Latvian animation films will also be screened outside the competitions. In the program Ansie offers/Annery Presents, which highlights the diversity of international cinema by offering a selection of full -length animation from around the world, the Tale of Animation directed by Reinis Kalns oil Telma’s ideal family (2025, studio riy). The work created in colorful pencils and computer altogether, following the adventures of Penguin’s Girl Telma, was shown this spring on the big screens in Latvian cinemas. On the other hand, a special free open -air screening for festival guests and visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the world -famous movie of Ginta Zilbalza Stream (2024, Dream Well Studio), who received four prizes in Ansie last year, both jury and spectator awards.

Meanwhile, Ansie’s film market in MIFA, a joint stand with colleagues from Lithuania and Estonia, will be represented by an extensive delegation of professionals in Latvia. Representatives from the National Film Center and Latvia’s leading animation studios will go to the film market – Atom Art, Studio Kokle, Ego Media, Sunday Rebel Films and others – to develop future professional collaboration in person and to promote several emerging animated projects – full -length movies Lucky (dir. Edmunds Jansons), Northern star (dir. Karl Vitols), Crazder (dir. Ilze Burkovska-Jakobsena) and educational short film cycle Urga, Because and po (Dir. Ilze Lasmane-Brože and Raitis Kalniņš). The Latvian animation representation is organized by the Latvian Animation Association with the support of the National Film Center.
