Latvia will have a maximum of 462.76 million euros / day from the Social Climate Fund

The preparation and submission of the social climate plan to the European Commission (EC) shall be coordinated by KEM and must submit to the Cabinet Social Climate Plan project by June 12 this year.

The implementation of the social climate plan is expected to be implemented through the Cohesion Policy Fund Management Information System, adapting it to the requirements of the Social Climate Fund.

Minister of Climate and Energy Kaspars Melnis (ZZS) explained that the overall plan was also marked where this funding could be promoted.

« These are three large blocks – reducing your monthly home payment, supporting building reconstruction, increasing available public transport and social accommodation – including shelter construction, » said Melnis.

The informative report explains that the EU Social Climate Fund was established in 2023 and aims to a socially fair reorganization of climate -free, focusing on the social impact of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of buildings and road sectors in the EU emission quota trading system.

The Fund has a period of operation from 2026 to 2032.

For Latvia, 0.71% or EUR 462.76 million are available from the fund. The national co -financing must be provided at least EUR 25% or EUR 154.253 million.

In order to receive funding for the Social Climate Fund, every EU Member State must develop and submit the EC social climate plan by 30 June 2025.

The plan should include a set of measures and investments to reduce the impact on vulnerable households, micro -enterprises and transport users to provide pricing heating, cold and mobility solutions.

In order to ensure the timely preparation, approval and submission of the Latvian social climate plan by 30 June, the project must engage in KEM, industry ministries and social partners.
