Latvia is in the first place to suspend public funding / day
The information available to the Office shows that there are 62 political organizations in Latvia, which under the law had to submit a 2024 activities report by 31 March. In accordance with the procedure set out, the KNAB received an annual report from 49 political parties within the time limit and in accordance with the procedure. Two political parties submitted an annual report after the statutory deadline.
The KNAB did not receive 13 party 2024 reports within the time limit or in accordance with the procedure specified in the Law. These organizations are the « Jauns Latvians », « Awakening », « New Harmony », « Movement » for « », « Latvia in the first place », « Basic-LV », « United for Latvia », « About Human Latvia », « Republic », « Power of People », « Action Party », « Folk.
The KNAB has launched an administrative violation process against these political parties. According to the KNAB data, state funding from these 13 parties only receives « Latvia in the first place », which in January this year was paid € 260,865 and the same amount is expected to be paid by mid -July.
The KNAB recalls that, under the law, the annual report may be threatened by the suspension or termination of their activities. On the other hand, those political parties receiving funding from the state budget may be threatened by the suspension of the cost of this funding.
