A large illegal cigarette factory was discovered in a remote shed in the Werkplaatsstraat in Veurne on Monday morning. Customs invaded the shed with different teams. « 22 people were arrested on the spot, » says Francis Adyns of the FPS Finance.
On Monday morning, various teams of the general administration of customs and excise duties, part of the FPS Finance, drove towards Veurne. In the Werkplaatsstraat they invaded a fairly remote shed, which can be reached via a long driveway. An illegal cigarette factory was discovered there.
« Our services have arrested a total of 22 people in the shed, » says Francis Adyns of the FPS Finance. « The raid in the shed comes after preparatory investigation. We cannot of course tell how we got it on track. Of course, something like that happens after an observation or a tip, whether or not from abroad. There is some searching in advance. Our services are currently fully making an inventory.
Later today, the FPS Finance gives more information about what exactly was discovered. Police zone Spoorkin was also called upon to provide assistance after the raid. (JHM)
