Large drug catch in Antwerp harbor: three young men arrested (Antwerp)
A large load of cocaine was found in the port of Antwerp earlier this month, it concerns 2,336 kilograms in a container from Ecuador. Three young guys were arrested and have been in jail for ten days.
The drug catch on Kaai 1700 on the Deurschanckdok in the port of Antwerp dates from 17 April, but is only now announced. The shipping police found that Thursday three men aged 19, 22 and 22 years old in two containers that were side by side at the DP World terminal.
A batch of cocaine of 2,336 kilos was found in one of those containers. The three suspects would have wanted to play the party through a Trojan container, so they had been brought into the terminal in another container to perform a so -called ‘switch’. The container from Ecuador stood next to a container from the United Kingdom.
« It is a well -known modus operandi in which drugs from a container from a drug -sensitive country are transferred to a container from a less suspicious country to avoid control of customs, » says the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office.
The three suspects were arrested by the investigating judge, on Thursday the council chamber extended their arrest by one month. The federal judicial police investigate the case.
