Lacking funding for the development of fire
It has not been as good as to ensure the funding of GeoSalmo farms west of Thorlákshöfn as hopes were tied to and has therefore slowed down construction. This informs Jens Þórðarson, CEO of the company in a conversation with Morgunblaðið.
« We are building our juvenile station at Laugar in Landsveit but we have slowed construction in Thorlákshöfn.
Asked how much funding is missing in order to start construction again, Jens replies that there is a large part of what is needed to complete the station’s construction.
« Uncertainty in international markets affects this process at least in the short term, but the project has been well received. The conversations are a good and dense group is formed. This is not a question of whether this will happen but how and when. »

At the beginning of the week, the Authority announced that the Agency had completed the issue of operating licenses for aquaculture on land. The license grants permission for 12,160 tonnes of biomass for juvenile and food farming on salmon west of Thorlákshöfn.
« This is something we have been working on for three years and the last puzzle that was missing for all the assumptions to come. It’s great to reach this stage, » says Jens.
The Icelandic company Geosalmo plans to build up to 24,000 tonnes of salmon farming west of Thorlákshöfn.
