Lack of cleaning the woods worries firefighters
The president of the National Association of Professional Firefighters (ANBP) warned this Monday with the lack of cleaning of the Matos, particularly with roads and housing. Fernando Curta lamented the “lack of planning and prevention” in Portugal.
Speaking to the Lusa Agency after an ANBP General Council made this Monday in Lisbon, Fernando Curta criticized “lack of political will” to impose the prevention and cleaning of the forest bush.
« We are afraid, not to say that we are sure that this will burn a lot, when one could once again be protected with prevention, » said the leader. “We have a high weed with the quick roads, we have zones where there are a lot of trees, also in the boundaries of inhabited zones,” added Fernando Curta.
For the ANBP leader, « almost nothing has been cleaned which makes the risk of forest fire this summer greatly increased. The situation is “very worrying, along with the quick roads, the highways and the national roads. We see Mato Grande in the road and a cigarette or a carelessness is enough to generate a fire,” he said.
ANBP also regretted the absence of protocols that regulate the performance of professional fires in the fight against fireworks.
