Kyrgyzstan’s President Atambayev is sentenced to 11 years in prison / day
Atambayev was the president from 2011 to 2017 and oversee the first peaceful transfer of power in the country, but the problems arose when the disagreement with his own successor, the current President Sadir Japarov, was exacerbated.
Atambayev was first arrested in August 2019, followed by a temporary release in 2020, but was re -arrested in a few months.
In 2023, he was released from prison for health reasons, then went to Spain for treatment, and since then lives abroad.

Japarov announced on Wednesday that he would consider amnestating Atambayev if he asked for it.
